Report by Allan Methven. “On Sunday 20th August, I had the pleasure to attend the RSAC event departing from the Royal Northern & Clyde yacht club outside Helensburgh.

There were a total of 65 vehicles registered to support the event. The eldest cars lead the drive, the 1912 Alldays & Onions having No.1 position followed by the 1913 Darracq TT13 in No.2 and then the 1926 Humber 15/40.

All vehicles departed at 1 minute intervals which worked very well.

The only Morris Minor to join the drive was Flora Leckie’s. The car performed perfectly after have had a new timing chain installed by Alan Scott in Cardross.
The drive headed north towards Garelochead, following the shore of the Gare Loch round the Roseneath peninsula through Kilcreggan and Cove along the shore of Loch Long until we arrived at Coulport. Over the very steep Peaton Hill towards the Green Kettle inn and onwards to Arrochar.

Heading west we motored on over the “Rest and be thankful” unfortunately, we had one summer shower, not ideal with the roof down but im glad to say it passed quickly.

Taking left for Dunoon we quickly turned off into Hells Glen over the hill toward Lochgoilhead, bearing left and back to the planned stop for lunch at the “Rest and be thankful” view point.

Continuing onwards to Arrochar we followed the Loch Long shore road turning up the steep incline into Glen Douglas which connects with the A82 at Inverbeg on Loch Lomond side.

With the sun shining we headed south toward Luss bearing right towards Helensburgh, the route then cut through Glen Fruin for the final taste of single track driving.

Gathering back at the RNCYC, Rhu for afternoon tea and the prize giving ended a very enjoyable day.”
