Charity Fundraiser Night – Parkinson’s UK

On Friday 2nd August 2024 the Glasgow Moggies held a charity fundraising night for Parkinson’s UK, whom we have been supporting throughout the year. After costs (£225) were deducted, we raised an incredible £1300 on the night for the charity. This amount exceeded the total annual target of £1000 we had set ourselves.

Tickets were £10 per adult on the door. The venue was the aptly named Kirky Miner’s Club in Kirkintilloch. Doors opened at 7pm, with 70s and 80s music commencing at 7.30pm with a live DJ courtesy of Darren from Instant Replay.

An hour after the music commenced the guests, approximately numbering sixty-five, were treated to a banquet of homemade Indian cuisine expertly prepared by amateur ‘master chef’ and club member Brian Ellis. Glasgow is famed for it’s Indian curries, with many of the UK’s favourite ‘Indian’ dishes originating in the city. Following the meal Brian was inundated with requests for copies of his chicken tikka chasni dish.

We then enjoyed a large raffle with scores of bottles donated by attendees and prizes coming from a number of local and not-so-local businesses. In relation to the Morris Minor scene we extend particular thanks to David Manners Group (our club sponsor), Tom Roy Morris Minors and East Sussex Minors for their prize donations. Prizes were also received from Celtic Football Club, Top Golf, M&D’s, Ashley Aesthetics, Regent Brasserie Kirkintilloch, Ashley Carr Hair and the Knightswood Post Office. Two beautiful hampers were also personally donated by Deric and Fiona Robinson.

Further entertainment included Irish Bingo and a £1 coin toss to win a bottle of whisky and a hamper. The latter prize winner was drawn by none other than the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump.

DJ entertainment then continued for the rest of the night.

JustGiving will be updated with the money raised. The Glasgow Moggies have now raised over £2300 for Parkinson’s UK. We chose to partner with this charity for 2024 because one of our club’s founder members, Deric Robinson, suffers from the condition.

We wish to express sincere thanks to everyone that has supported our fundraising efforts – in whatever way – throughout the year. If you wish to contribute to our efforts you may do so quickly, easily and securely through JustGiving.
