Exploring Argyll: Joint MG Owner’s Club Adventure

On Saturday 28th September, the Glasgow Moggies took part in an eleven loch drive through Argyll. This was a joint run with the MG Owner’s Club of Stirlingshire. Fittingly, eleven cars gathered at the Cooperative in Balloch. This comprised two Morris Minors and nine MG’s, ready for a departure just before 10am.

“Despite the fact that I was recovering from a rather heavy cold, and it just happened to be my wedding anniversary, I sacrificed all to take part in the joint run with the Glasgow Moggie’s yesterday. Well worth it of course. With great company, decent weather, tremendous scenery, and, surprisingly enough, the roads were really quite quiet!”

Nigel MacMillan, MG Owner’s Club

The group headed along Loch Lomond and over the hill to Helensburgh. This followed the windy Loch Long shore road, past Finnart oil terminal, to Arrochar. It then joined the not-so-busy A83 over the infamous Rest and be Thankful.

There was a stop in Inveraray to refuel (lunch!) and take in the stunning views. Departing there around 1pm, the group headed north towards Dalmally. From there we joined the A85 for the drive over the hills to Tyndrum.

There was a quick stop in Tyndrum before the last leg of the drive back through Callander. Thankfully we dodged the rain clouds all the way round!

The day finished with well deserved coffee and cake at the Smidy at Blairdrummond. This is the usual meeting point the MG owners. We look forward to further joint club events in 2025. Thank you the MG Owner’s Club for helping to make the day an enjoyable one.

The lochs visited were; Loch Lomond, Gare Loch, Loch Long, Loch Restil, Loch Fyne, Loch Awe, Loch Dochart, Loch Lubhair, Loch Laing Cholle, Loch Earn and Loch Lubnaig.
